Who We Are

OOH CHA TEAHOUSE is proudly owned by Donald. L. Duffield and his daughter Karen Duffield

It is a dream that started as early as 1979 in the lovely wagashi shops of Japan, where you could sit and have a great cup of green tea and perhaps an onigiri . . . it was there that the dream of a teahouse had its first spark of energy.

Returning to Vancouver in 1998, it was disappointing to find so few tea houses and really great tea. Falling into the rhythm of drinking coffee was easy, and it was with great enthusiasm that I decided it was time to have a place for really great tea.

Brought together with love and great energy in February 2007, we proudly serve eighty-plus teas and, thanks to our customers, continue to add on new teas per popular demand.

It’s not a far walk from the Kingsgate Mall, or for those of you driving by, there is free parking.

We are always happy to share our love of tea with the customers and appreciate the tea lovers who come to share their great experiences with tea. Tea is one of the oldest beverages known to history, and Ooh Cha Teahouse proudly serves the best tea from around the world, as well as offering both retail and wholesale options for bringing some of this delightful tea home.

Operated by Owner Karen Duffield with support from her friends, Ooh Cha welcomes all tea connoisseurs and new tea lovers to experience a great cup of tea.

Live, love, laugh and enjoy anytime at Ooh Cha

    Hello Karen-san,
How are you? It was so nice to come to your shop with Kyoko Mineshiba in August, 2008 during my trip to Vancouver. At the moment, I am sipping the Sencha Premium tea, of which I bought a “sampler”. I also bought samplers of Genmaicha and Rooibos (with lemon grass and lemon peel) and have been enjoying all these treats. I first became familiar with Red Bush tea, or Rooibos, when I read the series of books by Alexander McCall Smith about the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency (in Botswana). If you have not read the first book, I highly recommend it. The leading character, Precious Ramotswe, establishes a detective agency and when she and her secretary-assistant, Mma Makutsi, take a break from their detective work, they drink red bush tea. Yours is the best I have tasted; the lemon ingredients give it a nice tang! I hope all is going well with your shop. If you have an e-mail newsletter, you can send it to me. Cheers, Marie Hori, Toronto. September 19, 2008.

    Hello Karen,
I just wanted to thank you for allowing our seminar to take place at Ooh Cha. It was a perfect spot for the seminar “Live Well, Experience Life” Women’s guide to optimal Health.
I will definitely be holding a similar event in the future. The tea, the cosy environment, everything! I am encouraging all of my friends to come by and visit you.
    You are wonderful!
    Thank you again.
